Meeting with Parents & Students
All students – counselors are available at every Parent Teacher Conference night, in the School Counseling office on the 2nd floor.
Freshmen – see Xavier website events for exact dates, but generally this occurs in the winter during the registration period for the following school year; review of general four year academic planning, discussion of course placement and Honors/AP/College credit courses,
Sophomores – Spring semester; a letter will come home at the end of January explaining the Student Parent conferencing and how to make your appointment. Results of ASPIRE testing are explained, review of academic history and career development assessments, and pre planning for the college search process are addressed.
Juniors – see Xavier website events for exact dates, but generally this is done mid-winter to discuss college search planning, go over how students will be using the Naviance Family Connections program to organize their colleges, letters of recommendation, activities resume and transcript requests.
Seniors – mid September; transcript review, discussion of graduation timetable and check of spelling for diplomas, college application process review, what colleges are looking for.
We present scheduling options to all students by group guidance in classrooms (usually English or Religion classes) at the end of term 2 and beginning of term 3. We follow up to make sure students have schedules set by March. Each year students should review graduation requirements to make sure they are on track. Transfer students should work with their school counselor to be aware of the adjusted credits for graduation and how all course requirements are being met.
